Managing Director
James Ballantyne
Following his admission as a Solicitor in 2002 James has worked in key roles at some of Queensland’s leading commercial and property law firms. Based on the Gold Coast for the past decade, James has developed a strong practice in commercial and property law with a strong focus on small to medium enterprise.
Admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia, James is able to provide practical, pragmatic and effective legal advice in plain English.
Outside of work, James enjoys spending time with his family and training (and sometimes competing) in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, where he is a broken down old purple belt.
PRINCIPAL
Kathy Rundle
Kathy Rundle is the principal at Ballantyne Law. Kathy is originally from Melbourne, where she was admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria in 2004.
Kathy has worked in large and small law firms and in the Supreme Court of Victoria, with a focus on commercial law, estates and litigation.
ASSOCIATE
Sidnee Jennings
Sidnee is an Associate with Ballantyne Law. Sidnee manages the firm’s property team and also works in the firm’s commercial and estate planning divisions.
Sidnee is on the Board of the Southport Chamber of Commerce, has been a guest lecturer at Griffith University’s School of Business and Economics on Estate Planning topics and she is a member of the Palm Beach Soccer Club’s women’s committee where she is an avid and vocal advocate for bridging the slowly shrinking gap between women and men in sports.
A proud Kiwi, Sidnee moved to Australia in 2011 and graduated high school and university on the Gold Coast where she fell in love with the southern end of the city so in her free time you might find her walking along Currumbin beach or frequenting her favourite bars and restaurants in Palm Beach and Burleigh.

Abbey Widdison
Abbey graduated from Griffith University in 2020 with a double degree in Laws and Commerce (Accounting and Taxation).
After finishing her undergraduate studies and being admitted, Abbey continued her passion for legal research and completed a Graduate Diploma in legal research writing her thesis on the legal and ethical consequences of genomic sequencing and newborn bloodspot samples. She now works in our commercial litigation team.
Outside of work, Abbey loves reading and can often be found spending her weekends out in the sun devouring a good book.

Alyssa Burness
A recent graduate with a Bachelor of Laws and Creative Writing, Alyssa is completing her practical legal training and working in the firm’s property and commercial division.
As well as her focus on her admission as a solicitor, Alyssa loves reading and is a keen angler, enjoying all aspects of fishing with her fiancee.
Executive Assistant
Alexandra Butler
Alexandra serves as the Executive Assistant at Ballantyne Law Group. Alex has over five years of experience assisting legal professionals and handling the operations of corporate law firms. Alex supports all departments within Ballantyne Law, organizing and managing aspects of the day-to-day running of the firm and its development.
Born and raised on the Gold Coast, she values spending time with family and friends at the beach or one of the many local restaurants and bars on offer. When not assisting the solicitors, Alex enjoys renovating her home and traveling.
Her experience in the legal field and passion for excellent service make her a valuable member of the Ballantyne Law team.
Paralegal
Grace Jeffery
Grace is a current Law student completing a Double Undergraduate Degree in Law and Criminal Justice through Charles Sturt University and is set to graduate in 2025.
Grace has recently relocated to the Gold Coast and supports our legal team in the areas of conveyancing and Estate Planning in her position as a Paralegal.
Outside of Law, Grace has a passion for reading, travelling and sports, competing in Paintball events across Australia.
